
National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS), a central government program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, engages students from senior secondary schools, colleges, and universities in community service initiatives. Its mission, "education through service," aims to foster personality and character development through volunteer work. Launched in 1969 with 40,000 volunteers across 37 universities, NSS now operates in 657 universities, 51 +2 councils, 20,669 colleges, and 11,988 schools, benefiting over 7.4 crore students to date.
About us
On March 21, 2022, the National Service Scheme (NSS) was formally established at Assam Women's University with four (4) faculty members, three further members were selected. The unit consists of 220 volunteers selected from the university's student body.
Eligibility criteria
- The student should be an Indian citizen
- She must be between the age group of 16 to 25 years maximum
- She must be enrolled in a school or college approved by government
- NSS is a voluntary program. Students must have a genuine interest in social service and be willing to dedicate time and effort.

The motto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is
"NOT ME BUT YOU"
(मैं नहीं बल्कि आप)
NSS Pledge
The pledge of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are as follows:
"I solemnly pledge to work with dedication, and serve, strengthen freedom and integrity of the nation. I further affirm that I shall never resort to violence and that all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region, or political or economic grievances shall be settled by peaceful and constitutional means."
