Physiotherapy is a health service that involves rehabilitating & maximizing the functional potential of an individual who has a disease/ dysfunction or injury.

A physiotherapist is an important member of the health care team, taking responsibility for assessing and managing patients' return to functional activity. We study the human body and how injuries, disease and disability affect all aspects of a person’s life.

Welcome to the Department of Physiotherapy at Assam Women’s University, which is established in the year 2015. The Department of Physiotherapy of Assam Women’s University is the first and only department introduced in a Government University of Assam.

The Department of Physiotherapy has embraced a holistic and comprehensive approach to patient care from all walks of life in India, emphasising the promotion, prevention, maintenance and restoration of individuals, as well as communities’ physical, psychological and social well-being. The Department is committed to the primary health care approach of educating physiotherapists who will be well prepared to meet the health rehabilitation and research needs of our country.

Programmes Offered
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • The duration of the programme is four and half years. The programme is designed to equip students both academically and professionally with the skills and clinical expertise required to practise competently and confidently within a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, clinics, community health centres, special schools, homes and other community-based facilities. Accordingly, students will be required to carry out clinical practice in urban and rural areas as well as informal settlements. This degree will teach how to assess, diagnose and treat people with movement problems caused by a wide variety of joint, muscle and nerve disorders. One will also learn how to help people avoid injuries and maintain a fit and healthy body. The Bachelor of Physiotherapy incorporates significant clinical and professional fieldwork opportunities, providing hands-on experience with real clients in a supervised environment. This allows students to combine the academic components of the course with the practical abilities required of the profession.
