Department of Assamese



Department of Assamese is established in the year 2014, with specific purpose of imparting Post-Graduate Studies in Assamese Literature, Language and Culture. The department intends to give the students a broad literature, language and cultural background which are necessary for them to become well informed citizens of the Society.

  • M. A. in Assamese(two years)

This course is designed with the aim of providing knowledge of Assamese language, literature, culture, its trend and tendency, present status, literary theory, criticism etc. Along with these, some practical knowledge of translation studies, lexicography, editing, proof reading, creative writing etc. are also covered so that students can find a way towards the professional world in future. As this university is basically dedicated towards women's education, so a course on Women's Studies is also offered by the department. This department offers the programme based on CBCS system. So student will be able to choose literature or language courses from third semester onwards as specialization according to their own interest.
